Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was established
on 19 January 1992. This stadium is of The international standard which is owned by Pakistan Cricket Board. About 25,000
viewers can sit and enjoy the game in this stadium. On 9 December 1993 in this
stadium first match was hosted between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. On 19 January 1992
First One Day International match was hosted between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in
Rawalpindi stadium.
In Rawalpindi stadium, Last Test match was
played between Pakistan and India in April 2004.In this stadium last One Day
International was played between Pakistan and West Indies in 2006. In 1965 one The test match was played against New Zealand as there was no cricket stadium at
that in Rawalpindi, so this ground was used as a venue for International
cricket. Later on, in 1992, a cricket stadium was constructed here at this ground
and Rawalpindi cricket stadium name was given to this ground.
In 1996 World
Cup Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was major ground to play. After the 1996 World Cup, there was another Test match was played
between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. At that time Karachi hosted the first Test match
of Pakistan and Rawalpindi Cricket stadium came at the rank of no 14th
Test ground.In 2001 when Australian team decided to visit Pakistan than Floodlights were added in ground hence the ground was renovated for Australian team
tour.
This stadium is only a distance of 20
minutes from Capital city Islamabad. It has two ends Pavilion end and Shell
end. This ground is only one properly constructed stadium in the territory. The
Pakistan Cricket Board has spent almost one million on the renovation of the stadium
last year. This stadium is almost three miles away from Islamabad capital city.
In this ground last year fifth and final
One day International match was played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in
January. At home ground Pakistani team won the match by 117 runs. For Pakistan Super League it was decided to play
several International matches in future
in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
