England Cricket Team World Cup History

England cricket team represents England and Wales in international cricket under the supervision of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) from 1997. Previously governed by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) until 1996. England Cricket Team has played all the edition of the World Cups till the current but they never won the title three times they reached the final of the world cups in 1979,1987 and 1992 but they end up as Runner up. They have knocked out from group stages of the event three times in 1999, 2003, 2015. They have hosted the mega event four times in the history and three consecutive times in 1975, 1979 and 1983. 2019 world cup is also scheduled in England and Wales as well.

England In World Cup 1975:

1975 World Cup is the first ever world played in the history hosted by England that is consisted of 60 over and six balls per over and all the matches played during daytime and players are in traditional white kits. England performed well during the group's stage matches and they have won all their matches and they reached semi-finals stages. In the semi-final match England was bowled out for only 93 runs Gary Gilmour took 6/14. Australia started their inning they were 39/6 at one stage they Gary Gilmour came he made 28 off 28 balls to help Australia to Victory and were knocked out from the tournament.

England In World Cup 1979:

World cup 1979 once again held in England and Wales. During the group stage matches they did well once again they have won all of their matches and they were qualified for the semis. England met New Zealand in the semi-final and they defeated New Zealand in the semi-final although that was a close win. They were into the final of the World cup 1979. England met West Indies in the final. In the final match, West Indies defeated England. Sir Vivian Richards played a very good knock. He scored a century followed by aggressive innings of Collis King. West Indies scored 286/9 from 60 over. In reply England were restricted and bowled out on 194 in 51 overs. 

England In World Cup 1983:

England hosted the World cup for the third consecutive time. They have won 5 matches out if there 6 matches.  For the third consecutive time, they reached the semi-final. They were defeated by India in the semi-final.

England In World Cup 1987:

1987 world cup was the first world cup was not held in England and there was 50 over and six balls per over. England performs was very good in all three previous world cups. In 1987 world cup England performs was on the top they reached final. In the semi-final, England defeated the defending Champions India. In the final match, England met Australia. Australia batted first posted a good total on the board 253/5 in reply England short of 7 runs and they lost the world cup again.

England In World Cup 1992:

World cup 1992 was played in Australia. England won 5 matches during group stage they lost 2 matches and 1 with no result and they qualified for the semi-final where they met South Africa they defeated South Africa and reached final where England faced Pakistan. England were hot favorites to win the title but they couldn’t win the tournament. In the final match batted first and posted a target of 250 on the board. In reply, England start was not good Ian Botham was dismissed for a duck. England tumbled at 69/4 at the end England short of the target. They again ended up as runner up.

England In World Cup 1996:

World Cup 1996 was played, Asia. The first time Asia hosted the world cup. During the group stage matches, England has won only two matches out of six matches. Although they manage to reached Quarter-final where faced Sri Lanka but, they lost the match and eliminated from the event.  

England In World Cup 1999:

England hosted the world cup 1999 for the fourth time in history. First time in the history England failed to reach the knockout stage of the tournament they were eliminated during the group stage.

England In World Cup 2003:

World cup 2003 hosted by South Africa and Zimbabwe. For the second consecutive time, they were failed to reach the semis. During the group stage, England forfeited their first match against Zimbabwe due to security concerns in Zimbabwe and they lost their points. Out of the remaining 5 matches, they won only 3 matches.

England In World Cup 2007:


World Cup 2007 was played in West Indies for the first time. England managed to progress to the super 8 stages of the tournament by their both matches in the first stage. They lost their four matches against the Test-playing teams. They won only 3 matches against Ireland, Bangladesh and West Indies. They were failed to reach semi-final stage and eliminated from the tournament.

England In World cup 2011:

World cup 2011 was played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. England started the tournament with a victory against Associate member Netherlands but they suffered against Ireland and Bangladesh however, a victory against South Africa and they tied the match against India. They progress to the quarter-finals, in the quarter-final they met Sri Lanka. Where they lost to Sri Lanka.   



England In World Cup 2015:

World cup 2015 was played in Australia and New Zealand. England failed to beat any Test-playing nations at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Although they beat Associate nations Scotland and Afghanistan, this was not enough to qualify for the Knockout Stage. This was the third time that they had not progressed from the Group Stage.
With just 1 win in 4 matches, England entered this match knowing that they had to win in order to avoid being eliminated. After being put into bat, Bangladesh were 8/2, and later 99/4. However, a 141-run partnership between Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim (the highest partnership for Bangladesh in a World Cup match) helped Bangladesh reach 275/7, their highest score against England in ODI cricket. Mahmudullah Riyad became the first player to score a century for Bangladesh in a World Cup match. England started well, reaching 97/1, including a 54-run partnership between Ian Bell and Alex Hales. However, England then collapsed to 132/5 10 overs later, with the collapse led by Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza. When Joe Root was caught behind, England needed 113 to win from 14 overs. Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes put on 75 runs for the seventh wicket, but Buttler fell for 65, and England was ultimately bowled out for 260.
