Australia Cricket Team World Cup History

The Australian cricket team has played all the edition of the cricket world cup from 1975 to 2015. Australia considered being the hot favurart team of every world cup edition. The Australian cricket team is the most successful team in the history of world cup. They are the five-time champion. They won 1987,1999,2003,2007, and 2015 world cup editions. They also played the final of 1975 and 1996 world cup editions. They also played the quarterfinal of the world cup 2011 and they were knocked out in 1979, 1983 and 1992 world cup editions from the first round. The Australian team has the highest winning percentage in world cup among all the teams. They have played 85 world cup matches in total they have won 61 while they lost only 21 world matches.

Australia In World cup 1975:


In 1975 cricket world cup Australian cricket team led by Lan Chappell. Australia has played 3 games in the tournament out of which they won 2 games in the group stage. They progressed to the world cup semi-final stage where they faced host team England in the semi-final match. They defeated hosts and qualified for the final of first ever world cup. In final Australia met West Indies in the final. West Indies batted first in the final match they scored 291. In reply, Australia was short of 17 runs. They are the runners up in that world cup.

in 1979 world cup Australia was a completely different team led by Kim Hughes. Australia was placed in group A where they have England, Pakistan, and Canada in the opponent. Australia begins their journey with a loss against England. In the next game, they also lost to Pakistan and they were knocked out from the tournament from the group stage while they had a victory against Canada in the last game.

Australia In World cup 1983:

In 1983 world cup Australia off to a bad start in the tournament. Australia was eliminated from the world cup for the second consecutive time in the history of world cup under the captaincy of Kim Hughes. They played 6 matches out of these they only won 2 matches. They lost to Zimbabwe who was appearing first time in the history of the world cup by 13 runs. In the next match, they also lost to West Indies and they were knocked out from the tournament.    

Australia In World cup 1987:


World cup 1987 was the first world which was played in 50 overdue to light conditions in Sub-continents. These conditions were the most testing conditions for the Aussies. Allan Border captained the Australian team. Aussies played very well throughout the tournament they played 8 games out which they won 7 games. They through to the final of the tournament where they met England. Australia defeated England by 7 runs and declared as champions.

Australia In World cup 1996:

In 1996 world cup Aussies captained by Mark Taylor. They forfeited their opener match against Sri Lanka. They won 5 matches out of 8 they played. Aussies were qualified for the quarter-final where they defeated New Zealand and progressed to semis where they faced Windies and defeated them and qualified for the final where they met Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka defeated Australia in the final they lost the match by 7 wickets.  

Australia In World cup 1999:

In world cup 1999 Aussies became the champions under the captaincy of Steve Waugh. Aussies have played 10 matches and they won 7 and one with no result. They qualified for the semis. in a semi-final between the same teams, South Africa needed only one run with four balls remaining in the final over with their best one-day batsman Lance Klusner on strike. A panicky runout tied an epic match which put Australia through by virtue of their higher rank in the Super Six round. Australia made no contest of the final against Pakistan, taking barely 4-1/2 hours to overwhelm the 1992 champions.

In 1992 world cup Aussies were the defending champions they started their journey under the captaincy of Allan Border for the second time. They played 8 games out of which they only won 4 games. Australia missed out on the semi-final spot in this one by just one point. The first World Cup in Oceania began with co-hosts, New Zealand upsetting defending champs, Australia, by 37 runs. The thriller came in Australia's third match when they edged India by just one run. Another blow came for Australia when Ian Botham inspired England crushed them by 9 wickets at Sydney. This was another World Cup which Australia will love to forget.

Australia won their second title on the trot. The tournament schedule came under heavy criticism as the number of matches went up to 54 - the highest in Cup history - after the participating teams were increased from 12 to 14. The tournament saw a number of upsets, with South Africa, Pakistan, the West Indies and England biting the dust at the group stage. Australia became the deserving champions by winning all their matches. Australia became the deserving champions by winning all their matches. The way they beat India in the final showed who the 'boss' of international cricket was.

Australia In World cup 2007:

Just like 2003, it was a one-sided affair. The World Cup saw absolute and utter carnage by the Aussies as they were unbeaten and unchallenged once again. Australia, fresh from a 5-0 Ashes series win over England, destroyed their opposition throughout the tournament, finishing the final with a comfortable win over Sri Lanka in a rain-curtailed final in Bridgetown. Adam Gilchrist scored a swashbuckling 149. Two other Australian giants, Matthew Hayden, and Glenn McGrath were the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively.

Australia In World cup 2011:

In world 2011 Aussies winning steak of 34 unbeaten games at the world cup comes to end. Where they lost to Pakistan in a group stage match. Although they through to the quarter-finals where they lost to India and their journey comes to end in the world cup.

In 2015 world cup Aussies became the champions under the captaincy of Michael Clarke at their home soil they won 7 games out 9. they played final against New Zealand. The final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup took place on 29 March 2015 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia. It was played between the tournament's two co-hosts, New Zealand and Australia. Australia went into the game as favorites and won by 7 wickets for a fifth World Cup triumph.
