South Africa Cricket Team World Cup History

South Africa cricket team were suspended from the International cricket from 1970 to 1991 due to apartheid, they made his world cup debut in 1992 world cup where they made an immediate impact in international cricket on their return back in cricket. South African team has impressed in all the editions of the world cups in those they have participated. They gave tough time to their opponents. They entered into the event as hot Favourites to win the title.  

South Africa in World Cup 1992:

In world cup 1992 Proteas led by Kepler Wessel’s they started well in the tournament. They won 5 games out of eight matches they played. They found a place in semis. They faced England in the semi-final. England defeated Proteas. They need 23 runs off 13 balls but rain interrupted the matches under revised conditions they needed 22 off 1 ball which is impossible to make.    

South Africa in World Cup 1996:

In 1996 world cup which was held in Sub-Continent captained by Hansie Cronje. South Africa considered hot favorites among the favorites to win the title. They won all their group stage matches and qualified for the quarter-finals. They met West Indies in the quarter-finals where they choked under pressure and Brian Lara innings master classes them and lost the match by 19 runs and they were eliminated from the tournament.    

South Africa in World Cup 1999:

In 1999 world cup South Africa started the tournament as the top contender to win the title. They won 4 matches out of 5 and secured a place in semi-finals where they had a strong opponent Australia. Semi-final end was in a dramatic.in the last over South Africa needed 9 runs to qualify for the final but Lance Klusener squeezed one impeccable Yorker and other fuller length delivery for four through the cover boundary successively However, tail-ender Allan Donald froze in the middle as fast bowler Damien Fleming guided the missed throw to wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist to run him out to force a tie at Edgbaston. Australia edged out South Africa to secure a place in the finals as they finished higher in the Super Sixes table.     

South Africa in World Cup 2003:


In 2003 world cup South Africa hosted the world cup. Proteas considered to the title in their home conditions but they failed to qualify to next round in the super six stages. A match between Proteas and Sri Lanka tied due to rain and South Africa was knocked out from the tournament.

South Africa in World Cup 2007:


2007 in West Indies, progressed to the Super Eights with just one loss in three games played. and despite not being at their best, they managed to reach the semi-finals stage for the third time in their World Cup history. This time, however, they could not blame bad luck They eventually made an exit going down to Australia by seven wickets in the semi-finals after being shot out for 149 in St Lucia.  or a choke for their exit as the side was totally outplayed by the eventual winners Australia in the semi-final.  

South Africa in World Cup 2011:

In 2011 world cup played in Sub-Continent. Proteas led by Graeme Smith close to repeating the performance of world cup 1996 in world cup 2011. They finished at the top position in the group stages and qualified for the quarter-final where they faced New Zealand. Proteas defeated by Kiwis in the quarter-final and failed to progress to semis and were knocked out from the tournament.

South Africa in World Cup 2015:

In 2015 world cup Proteas led by Ab.they started well in the tournament finished second in group stage won 4 games out of 6 games and qualified for the quarter-finals where they met Sri Lanka. Proteas defeated Sri lanka in the quarter-final and progressed to Semis where they have to face Nea Zealand. In the semi-final, South Afirica’s journey comes to end defeated by kiwis.
