Cricket Asia Cup
Asia cricket cup is a premium tournament of Asia started in 1984 controlled by Asian Cricket Council. ACC started the tournament to make goodwill between Asian Countries. The tournament is in 50 overs format but, in 2016 it was played in T20 format in Bangladesh. India and Sri Lanka are the five-time champions of this tournament while Pakistan has won twice this tournament and Bangladesh have not won yet. After 2008 Asia Cup edition ICC took the controlled of Aisa Cup because of the downsizing of Asian Cricket Council and announced that the tournament will be played on rotation basis ODI and T20i formats due to the upcoming formant based world events.
Asia cup winner’s history:
In 1984 the first ever Asia Cup was played in UAE India is the winner of the first tournament.
In 1986 second edition of Asia Cup hosted by Sri Lanka and also won by Sri Lanka.
In 1988 third edition was played in Bangladesh and Indian cricket team was the champion again.
In the 1990-1991 cricketing year, the fourth edition of Asia Cup was played in India. India defended their title successfully.
In 1995 fifth edition after four-year gap Asia cup was played in UAE again India defended their title.
In 1997 sixth edition of Asia cup was hosted by Sri Lanka and won by Sri Lanka as well.
In 2004 eighth edition was played in Sri Lanka after four years break due to world cup 2003. Sri Lanka has won it.
In 2008 ninth edition was hosted by Pakistan for the first time. Sri Lanka has defended their tournament title.
In 2010 tenth edition was organized in Sri Lanka and India have won the tournament fifth time in the history.
From 2012 to 2016 Asia cup was played in Bangladesh. Won by Pakistan Sri Lanka and India respectively.
In 2018 Asia cup was played in UAE hosted by Pakistan and won by India for the seventh time in the history and the most winners of the tournament.
Asia Cup Boycotts:
In1986 India Boycotted the tournament due to their tired relations with Sri Lanka.
In 1990-1991 tournament Pakistan boycotted the tournament due to their political tensions with India
In 1993 Asia Cup was canceled again due to political tensions between Pakistan and India.
Most Runs In the Asia Cup:
Most runs in the Asia cup history is made by a former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya led by1220 runs. while second most run scores is also a Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara 1075 runs. The third top scorer of Asia cup is Sachin Tendulkar is 971 runs he made. Fourth most runs getter is a Pakistani batsman Shoaib Malik 786 runs he made till now and the fifth Most runs scorer is another Indian Rohit Sharma he gets 745 runs.
Most Wickets In the Asia Cup:
Most wicket-taker in Asia cup history is Muttiah Muralitharan he got 30 wicket.
Second, most wicket Taker is also a Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga he got 29 batsman.
The thired most wicket taker is another Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis he took 26 wickets
Saeed ajmal the star spinner of Pakistan took fourth most wickets in Asia cup history he sends 25 batsman to the pavilion with his mistry bowling.
Chaminda Vaas another permier bowler of Sri Lanka took 23 wickets in Aisa cup history fifth most wickets by him.
