Islamabad United PSL Cricket

Islamabad United (ISU) is a Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise that competes with other teams of PSL. The team was formed back in 2015 when PSL was started. ISLU is Islamabad based team owned by Leonine Global Investments sports Amna Naqvi and Ali Naqvi are the owners. Shoaib Naveed is the CEO of the franchise while Rehan ul Haq is the GM. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is the home ground of the ISLU coached by Dean Jones and team director is Waqar Younis while Saeed Ajmal is the spin bowling coach. luke Ronchi is leading runs scorer and Muhammad Sami is the leading wicket-taker. Islamabad United have won the first and third edition of the PSL.


In 2016 first edition of the PSL Islamabad United had a poor start they won their four group stage matches out of eight and qualified for the playoffs. Islamabad united met Peshawar Zalmi in the second qualifier of the tournament. Sharjeel khan scored 117 runs off just 62 balls. He scored the first century of the tournament. ISLU won the qualifier and through to the final where they met Quetta Gladiators. In the final match of the tournament, QG posted a big total on the board in reply united chased successfully and won the final by six and become the First Champion of PSL.    

In 2017 Second edition of the Pakistan Super League ISLU retained 17 players and they picked Shadab Khan, Zohaib Khan, Nicolas Pooran was the replacement of Ben Duckett who left the squad due to national duties and Steve Finn as a replacement of the Andre Russell who was banned due to doping breach. And completing their 20 members squad. again Islamabad United qualified for the playoffs and faced Karachi Kings in the eliminator after a thrilling game Karachi beat Islamabad. Karachi bowled out Islamabad on just 82 runs and knocked out from the tournament.


In the third edition of the PSL united started their season under the captaincy of Misbah Ul Haq start was not so good. Rumman  Raees their Vice-Captain and a key player suffered from a keen injury and he was out of the tournament later on Misbah Ul Haq was out of the PSL as well JP Dummy took the captaincy. Under his captaincy, Islamabad United became the champion again for the second time where they defeat Peshawar Zalmi in the final.  

In the fourth edition of the PSL Islamabad have some changes in their squad their captain from last three seasons Misbah Ul Haq joined Peshawar Zalmi. United management decided to appoint Muhammad Sami as captain and Shahdab Khan as Vice-Captain. Some foreign players joined like Ian Bell, Wayne Parnell, Cameron Delport and Phil Salt and some new local faces also added in the squad as well like Waqas Maqsood, Muhammad Musa and Nasir Nawaz.
