New Zealand Cricket Team World Cup History


New Zealand has played all the editions of the cricket world cup till now they never have been champions although they have played 5 semi-finals, 1 quarter-final and of the world cup while they have eliminated from super 6 stages and group stage once. They are the runners up in the 2015 world cup edition.

New Zealand in world cup 1775:

In the first ever cricket world cup New Zealand looks good in group stage they played 3 matches out of which they just lost one match against England and comfortably qualified for the semis. In the semi-final of first ever cricket world cup they were defeated by west indies and eliminated from the world cup.

New Zealand in world cup 1779:

In the second edition world cup New Zealand put a good show during the group stage they played 3 game won 2 and lost just one game against west indies. New Zealand was qualified for the semi-final for the second consecutive time. In the semi-final match this time they faced host England. They lost the match chasing 221 in the last over of the match by 9 runs and once again they were knocked out from the tournament.   

New Zealand in world cup 1983:

In the third edition of the world cup which is Round-Robin based. Kiwis have played 6 games out of which they won 3 matches and lost 3 matches that make Kiwis unable to progressed to the next round and they were knocked out from the tournament once again.

New Zealand in world cup 1987:

In the fourth edition of the world cup, New Zealand performed worst ever in the cricket world cup history. They played 6 matches out of which they lost 4 matches they lost twice against defending champions India and Australia and for the second consecutive time they failed to progress to the semi-finals.

New Zealand in world cup 1992:

The fifth edition of the world cup which was held in New Zealand and Australia and the first time in colored kits and white ball. In the home conditions, kiwis were expected to do well and win the tournament. They put up a strong start remain unbeaten during the group stage and qualified for the semi-final where they had to face Pakistan. In the semi-final kiwi defeated by Pakistan by four wickets and failed to progress to the final.

New Zealand in world cup 1996:

In the world cup 1996 after a terrific show in 1992, NZ saw a big decline in their performance. They won three out of their five matches in the group stage but lost the other two matches against South Africa and Pakistan. Their quarter-final clash was against Australia and batting first, they scored 286 runs with Chris Harris making a brilliant 130 runs. In reply, Australia chased down the target in 47.5 overs and New Zealand was knocked out from the tournament.           

New Zealand in world cup 1999:

In the 1999 world cup edition kiwis had not a very good show although the qualified for the semi-final in the super 6 stages they put a decent show they were through to the semi-final where kiwis faced Pakistan where they thrashed by Pakistan by nine wickets and kiwis once again failed to progress to the final.

New Zealand in world cup 2003:

In the world cup 2003 New Zealand failed to reach the semis and was knocked out of the tournament after getting hammered by India by seven wickets in their last Super Six match at Centurion. Kiwis didn't have a good start and were beaten by Sri Lanka in their first group match by 47 runs. They made a good comeback against West Indies and South Africa but in their next match Kenya was given a walkover and was adjudged winners as New Zealand forfeited the match due to safety concerns in Nairobi. In Super Six, they won their first match against Zimbabwe by six wickets but lost the next match against Australia by 96 runs. And kiwis once again knocked out.

New Zealand in world cup 2007:

In the world cup 2007 edition New Zealand started their campaign by winning all three games in group stages and qualified for the super eight round where they won 4 games and progressed to the semi-final. In the semi-final they faced Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka scored 289 runs in 50 overs and in reply NZ were bowled out for 208 runs and once again they failed to progress to the final.

New Zealand in world cup 2011:

In the 2011 world cup edition, the kiwi was being captained by Daniel Vettori. kiwis reached the semis for a record sixth time but were once again not able to reach the finals. As usual, they were impressive in the group stages and won their matches against the smaller teams easily but lost against Australia and Sri Lanka. In the quarter-finals, they defeated South Africa by 49 runs to reach the last four where they were defeated by Sri Lanka by five wickets.

New Zealand in world cup 2015:

In the world cup 2015 edition kiwis performed fantastically they started their campaign with a win they won all the group stage match and qualified for the quarter-final stage where they met West Indies and defeated them convincingly by 143 runs and progressed to the semi-final where they played against South Africa where South Africa defeated by kiwis by 4 wickets with 1 ball reaming under D/L method and qualified for the final.in the final, New Zealand met Australia where Aussies crushed Kiwis by 7 wickets and once again kiwis ended as Runners up.
