Eoin Morgan


Eoin Morgan is an English Cricketer. He is an Irish born cricketer who captains the English team. He is left-handed batsman and bowls right-arm medium. He was represented of Ireland team at International level but soon he joined English squad in 2009. He played county cricket for Middlesex, England ODI, test series and T20I.In 2014 he was selected as English team captain for 2015 Cricket World Cup. He had already captained of  England in ODI’s and T20Is. He scored more than 4 ODI centuries as an English Captain. He had the honor to play for two nations in ODI and scored hundred. With an aggregate of 606 runs, he is a topmost player of U19 Cricket World Cup.

Domestic Career:

On 5 July 2008, he scored his maiden first-class century for Middlesex at Uxbridge. In 2010 Indian Premier  League (IPL) he took part. Royal Challengers booked him for a sum of $220,000.Later on, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $350,000 for the next three years in 2011 IPL.He refused to play in IPL 2014 as England was busy in playing ODI against Sri Lanka. In 2015 he was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for $150,000 to play the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2016 he played 7 matches for the Sunrisers.In IPL 2017 he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 2 crores.In 2017 Pakistan Super League he had also played for Peshawar Zalmi.In Platinum Category he was bought by US$140,000.For Mzansi Super League T20 tournament he was selected for the first edition in October 2018.

International Career:

On 5 August 2006, he made his ODI debut for Ireland against Scotland. He had scored 99 runs and unfortunately run out. Ireland beat Scotland by 85 runs.He was the first cricketer who scored a first-class double century for Ireland.In 2007 Cricket World Cup he performed very well with 91 runs.He played in 23 ODIs for Ireland at an average of 35.42 and scored 744 runs. He was twelfth men of England for the Lord’s test against West Indies.He played In a List A match against South Africa on 16 August 2008.In April 2009 Morgan was selected as a part of 30-man provisional squad for the 2009 ICC World Cup.In May 2009 he was nominated in England’s 14-man squad to play against West Indies in a three-match ODI series.He mad his England debut in the second ODI.In 2009 ICC Championship Trophy he helped England to win the match against Sri Lanka.In next match he took wicket for the first time in his professional career against South Africa.He scored 67 runs from 34 balls. In the ODI series a match against South Africa he helped England to win the match by seven wickets.

Continuing his successful career he played the match against Bangladesh in the ODI series with 33 runs. He got the man of the match award for that match. He was most prominent player of England at that time who scored 169 runs in the three matches of the ODI series. He was the most important player of England’s Twenty20 team who won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies. He was the top scorer against West Indies and his native Ireland. In a five-match ODI series, he scored 103 off 85 balls at the Rose Bowl. He also made a half-century in the second match thus England won both matches and series also. He won Player of the series.

After making huge successes he was then included in England’s Test squad for the home series against Bangladesh. He made his debut with Paul Collingwood in the first Test at Lord’s on May 27, 2010.He scored 44 runs. In the second Test he scored 37 runs and England won by 80 runs.On March 11, 2011, he made his World Cup debut  for England,scored 63 runs and defeated Bangladesh. He decided to play in the IPL for six weeks scored 137 runs with a highest score of 66 in the nine innings for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored enough runs to make sure his selection for Test against Sri Lanka in May. England won the three-match series 1-0 and Morgan scored 168 runs and two half-centuries. Morgan was than names as Vice Captian in the format. Morgan scored 158 runs  in the ODI series and England won the five-match ODI series 3-2. England won series against India and Morgan got a chance of captaincy for the fixture and became third Irish man to lead England.

In 2011 England and Wales Cricket Board awarded him a central contract for the first time in September.From January to February 2012 he participated in England’s series against Pakistan in UAE but unfortunately England lost that Test series 3-0. He scored 24 and 14 in the first Test. His top score in the series was 31. Morgan had made 8 runs against Australia and 13 against Sri Lanka in the 2013 ICC Championship Trophy.In 2013 for ODI series against Ireland and Australia he was nominated as the captain.He made his career best  and won the one-off match against Ireland. For Ashes series, he joined England squad but they lost the ashes with 5-0.

In in 2014 the warm World Cup his team lost for the first match against New Zealand.Morgan made 3 in the first match in the ODI in the first match.He made top score 40 in the next match as England were bowled out for 99.England won the match by seven runs to level the series once more.In the final match England lost the match and the series 3-2.Morgan continued his captaincy in ODI against New Zealand in the five-game series.England won the series by 210 runs. Morgan showed marvelous performance in the T20 against Australia,scored 74 runs.In the first ODI he scored 38 but England lost the match.In the second match England also face defeat but in the third match England won the match as Morgan made half-century by making 62 runs.

In 2015 Morgan made 76 in the first game of the ODI series against Pakistan. England won that series by 3-1. He made 43 runs in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. He didn’t participate in batting in the next match but England won the match by ten wickets. In 2016 Morgan made 33 runs in the first ODI against Pakistan. In the second match, he scored 68 runs. In the third ODI England set a World record of 444/3 and won the match by 169 runs.

In 2017 Morgan made 28 in the first ODI against India.In the second match he made 102 runs. In the next match he scored 51 in the first T20I and England the match by seven wickets.He scored 17 in the second ODI and 40 in the third ODI but unfortunately England lost both matches.Again  in 2017, he made 107 runs in the first ODI against the West Indies and England won the match by 45 runs.He made century in that match and became the fifth as a captain who made a highest century for England.In 2018 he was named by ICC as  the captain of a World XI team to play a one-off T20I fixture. Against West Indies.In April 2019 for the 2019 Cricket World Cup he was selected as a captain of England’s squad.
