Cricket Stadium is situated in Guwahati, Assam, India. The stadium was
established in 2012. The stadium has the capacity or 40,000 spectators. The stadium
is owned and operated by Assam Cricket Association. The stadium has two ends
called The Media and the Pavilion end. It is the stadium with all the
modern facilities. It is the 49th International cricket venue in
India. It is the stadium which hosted Domestic and International cricket
matches. In northeast India, it is the largest sports stadium. It is the 49th
International cricket venue of India.
In
the memory of the late Dr.Bhupen Hazarika the Assam Cricket Association changed
the name of the stadium in 2010. The stadium is officially known as Dr. Bhupen
Hazarika Cricket stadium. Assam Cricket Association is the nickname of the
stadium. In October 10,2017 the Assam cm arbananda Sonowal was invited for the
inauguration of the stadium. In June 2004 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the
foundation stone of the stadium. In July 2007 the BCCI Niranjan Shah was present
at the spot and Tarun Gogoi again laid the foundation stone of the clubhouse. The State Government allotted an area of 59 bighas of land to the Assam
Cricket Association (ACA) and in the year 2006 the construction was started by
the Assam Cricket Association. The stadium has all the modern facilities. For 24
hours the water sprinkling facilities are available for the ground. There are
covering seats all around besides the playing area. The stadium also has four grandstands
including the player's pavilion and the
modern media center. The stadium will also have a basic framework such as
gym, swimming pool, and indoor practice
wicket.
There
are eight pitches at the ground on the wicket square and on the separate
practice wicket there are ten pitches with covering area of more than 2000
sq.m.The low voltage automatic satellite controlled pressurized pop-up the irrigation system is used to irrigate the field of the ground. The renovation of
the stadium cost 300 crore rupees.
The
first One Day International match at this ground was between India and West
Indies. The Indian team scored 326 runs in 42.1 overs and the West Indies scored
322 runs in 50 overs. Virat Kohli was announced as the player of the Match. On 10
October 2017 the only T20I match was played between India and Australia.The
Australian team scored 122/2 runs in 15.2 overs and the Indian team scored 118
runs in20 overs. Jason Behrendorff was declared as the player of the match.The ground hosted four matches in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season and in that
season the first class match played at the ground was between Assam and
Kerala. The match played at the ground
was the East Zone Senior Women interstate The one-day Championship match between Assam and Odisha on November 4,2012.
