Green Park Stadium Kanpur, India
Green Park Stadium is situated in Kanpur, India. It was established in 1945. It has a capacity of 32,000 people. It is owned by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and operated by Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. It is home of the Uttar Pradesh cricket team. The stadium is situated near the river Ganges. The stadium has two ends called Mill Pavilion end and Hostel end. The pitch of the stadium is ideal for the spinners. The stadium has hosted 22 Tests matches,14 ODI matches,4 IPL matches, and one T20I. Indian team played 500 test matches at this stadium.
In early times Madam Green used to practice horse riding in the ground so after some time her name was given to the stadium” The Green Park Stadium”.The stadium has two nicknames “Billiards Table and Wooler’s turf in the memory of late Bob Woolmer. In the stadium, a student gallery is made and it has the world largest manually operated scoreboard. During International matches video screens are used to make spectators more attracted towards matches. The U.P Housing and Development Board, Construction Department and UP Housing and Development Board had constructed a Directorate Pavilion, new dressing rooms for the players and a VIP pavilion and the stadium was renovated properly for future International matches.
The first ever Test match was played in the stadium in 1952 between India and England and the last Test match was played in the September 2016 between India and New Zealand. In 1959 Indian team won their ever first Test match at their home ground against Australia. This stadium noted remarkable cricket moments at different times. In 1987 Cricket World Cup Group B match was played at this ground between Sri Lanka and West Indies. West Indies won that match by 25 runs and the player of the match was Phil Simmons of the West Indies team. One the Nehru Cup match was hosted by the ground in 1989. The match was played between England and India. Indian team won the match by 6 wickets at their home ground and Chetan Sharma was player of the match. In 1993 the opening match of Hero Cup was hosted by the ground. The match was played between Sri Lanka and India. Indian team won the match by 7 wickets and Indian player Javagal Srinath was declared as a player if the match.
For the Wills world series 1994-95, a match was played between West Indies and India at this ground. West Indies team won the match by 46 runs and West Indies player Keith Artgurton was declared as player of the match. In 2000 the great former player Sourav Ganguly of Indian team got 5 wickets in a match against Zimbabwe at this ground. In October 2017 the first One Day International day and night match was played at this ground between India and New Zealand. The Indian team won that day and night One Day International at their home ground by six runs. On 29 October 2017, the highest team total was recorded between India and New Zealand(337/7). Rohit Sharma who is an International Indian player has the honor to scored two centuries in One Day International in the ground.
The first One Day International played at this ground was in December between India and Sri Lanka and the last One Day International was played in October between India and New Zealand at this ground. There is only one T20I match was played at this ground was in January 2017 between England and India.
