Holkar stadium Indore, Madhya Pradesh


Holkar Stadium is an Indian stadium situated at Race Course Road, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It was established in 1990. It is owned and operated by Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. It has a capacity for 30,000 spectators. The stadium is equipped with floodlights to host day and night matches. The stadium is constructed in this way that it has best-draining facilities in India. For hosting the International cricket it is considered as one of the smallest grounds in terms of filed size and it has straight  boundaries of 68 meters while the square ones aren’t more than 56 meters. In the early times, it was known as Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground but in 2010 it was renamed as Holkar Cricket Stadium  after the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas that ruled Indore.

Maratha Confederacy granted stadium to Holkar. For the Ranji Trophy, this stadium hosted mostly

Madhya Pradesh cricket team’s home matches. In Ranji Trophy season the Holkar’s team appeared and reached in the final eight times and won the title four times. In October 2016 the only Test match was hosted by the stadium between India and New Zealand.The Indian team won the test match by 321 runs on the fourth day to complete a 3-0 series whitewash. The match was the third and final test of the series and became the twenty-second test venue of India.

In April 2016 the First One Day International match was hosted by the stadium between India and England and the Last One Day International match was hosted between India and Australia in the stadium. The Holkar’s stadium hosted four One Day International matches in which two of the matches was between India and England. In the first match of One Day International match between India and England India successfully scored 289 runs to complete a 5-0 series. In the next tour of England at Holkar’s stadium after a half year again the Indian team won the match


On 13 May 2011 the first ever IPL match was hosted by the stadium. In 2017 Holkar's stadium was hosted by the Kings XI Punjab as one of their home grounds for three IPL matches. On 8 December 2011 Virender Sehwag made the highest runs in a limited over innings of cricket against West Indies. His record was later on broken by Rohit Sharma. In India, the Holkar stadium along with other five Test venues was selected for Test matches in November 2015.In January 2017 the stadium hosted the final of the 2016-17 edition of the Ranji Trophy. In 2017 two international matches were hosted by the stadium. In December 2017 the T20 International match has hosted the stadium between India and Sri Lanka. Indian team scored its highest innings 260/5 on this ground.
