Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala


The Jinnah Stadium is situated in Gujranwala. It has a capacity of 40,000 spectators. It is owned by Pakistan Cricket Board. This stadium is a multi-purpose stadium but it is mostly used for cricket matches. In 1991 the first ever and only test match was hosted by this stadium between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.Alhaj Mohammad Aslam Butt constructed the stadium and it was designed by Amjab Saleem Tahir. In Gujranwala, the stadium is the largest and it followed the mini stadium with a capacity of 15,000 for football. The stadium is located on Sialkot road. Different schools of Gujranwala used this stadium for sports days of their schools.

The first One Day International match was played at the ground of this stadium on 3 December 1982 between India and Pakistan. On 16 February 2000, the Last One Day International match was played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at this stadium. Aleem Dar a famous umpire of Pakistan umpired first One Day International of Pakistan and Sri Lanka this ground. In 1996 in the Cricket World a One Day International match was played between Pakistan and UAE.


This stadium has noted many records of different matches. On 3 December 1982 Javed Miandad of Pakistan scored 106 runs against India and Pakistan Won the One Day International match at its home record. In 1995 in One Day International match Sri Lankan player Arjuna Ranatunga scored 102 runs against Pakistan but unfortunately, Sri Lankan team lost the match. Again in September 1995, Saleem Elahi of Pakistan scored 102 runs for 133 balls against Sri Lanka. Pakistan won the One Day International match at its home ground.In 1989 Sachin Tendulkar a fabulous player of  India made his One Day International debut at this ground.
