Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium


The Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium is situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It was established in 2008 and has the capacity for 45,000 spectators. It is owned and operated by Vidarbha Cricket Association. The stadium has two ends called Secretary end and  Pavilion end. In terms of a field area, it is the largest cricket stadium in India. The stadium has 80 yards boundaries and 85-yard square boundaries. Before the stadium, there was the old Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground. The stadium holds many remarkable qualities and its qualities are considered by the International Cricket Council. For the domestic Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy tournaments, the stadium is the home ground for Vidarbha and Central Zone teams.

The first Test match was hosted by the stadium in November 2008 between India and Australia. It was the fourth Test match between both teams. Indian team won the match by 172 runs. In this match Harbhajan Singh of India took seven wickets and the Australian spinner Jason Krejza finished with 12 wickets. The last Test match was hosted by the stadium was between India and Sri Lanka in November 2017. In October 2009 the First One Day International was played at the stadium between India and Australia. The Indian team won the match by 99 runs. The Indian team scored 354/7 runs in 50 overs whereas the Australian team scored 255 runs in 48.3 overs. The player of the match this One Day International was Ms. Dhoni. The last One Day International match was played at the ground of this stadium was between India and Australia in March 2019.

In December 2009 the first T20I was played between India and Sri Lanka at this ground. Sri Lankan team won this match by 29 runs. The Sri Lankan team scored 215 runs and took 5 wickets in 20 overs. The Indian team scored 186 runs and took 9 wickets in 20 overs. The last T20I match was played between England and India on 29 January 2017 at this ground. Indian team scored 144/8 runs and English team scored 139/6 runs. The Indian player JaspritBumrah was announced as the player of the match. The stadium has hosted five Tests, seven One Day Internationals and eleven T20I matches.

The stadium holds remarkable records in the history of Tests matches. The highest team total was recorded between India and Sri Lanka in n 2017/18(610/6d).In 2015-16 Test match the lowest total team was recorded by South African team 79 runs against India. In 2010/11 the highest  individual score was recorded by South African player Hashim Amla (253) against India. Virender Sehwag scored 257 runs and was recorded as most runs scored player. In One Day International history at the ground, the highest team total was recorded by Indian team against Australia (354/7).George Bailey of India scored 156 runs and was recorded as highest individual player.At this ground  MS-Dhoni scored 268 runs, Shane Watson scored 183 runs and Virat Kohli scored 170 runs and was recorded as most runs scored players in One Day International matches. In T20 International the highest team total was recorded between Sri Lanka and India(219/5) in 2009/10.

Kumar Sangakkara scored 78 runs and was recorded as highest individual scorer player in 2009/10 T20I match. In 2011 Cricket Wolrd Cup four matches were played at the stadium.
